First Day of School 2014

We started the morning off with some pancakes!  Just like last year...
 Mickey Mouse, what else?

Happy kiddos!

George enjoyed some pancakes too:
(kind of blurry)

They are ready to go!

(so I have to admit that this picture was taken after  school, because when I went back and looked at the pictures from that morning, I noticed that Jayna had her arms behind her back on the close up and it looked like she didn't have any arms!  Oh well.  I guess when you have kids, pictures will never be perfect!

Jayna's 3rd Grade Stats:
  • Height:  4 feet 5 inches (76th percentile) - up 2 inches from last year
  • Weight:  88 lbs (96th percentile) - up 8.5 lbs from last year
  • Shoe Size:  3.5 – up one and a half sizes from last year
  • Dress/Shirt: 14/16
  • Baby Teeth:  Jayna has lost 8 so far and has no loose teeth.  Some of her front teeth are finally coming through and we are going to see the orthodontist week after next
  • Favorite Food:  Macaroni and Cheese / something new: Crab Legs
  • Favorite Drink:  Cherry Sprite
  • Favorite Games:  Hide and Seek (this has become a family favorite with the added space)
  • Favorite Thing To Do:  Play princesses
  • Favorite Show/Movie:  Digimon (show) / The Lego Movie (movie)
  • Favorite Color:  Pink
  • Favorite Song: Let It Go from Frozen
  • Best Friend:  McKenzie (from 2nd grade last year)
  • Looking forward to this school year:  Science labs and the Science Fair
  • When Jayna grows up:  She still wants to be a scientist.  Her 2nd grade teacher went to A&M, so Jayna is set on going to college there.  She’s still really into animals and living science, so I have a feeling that veterinary school is in her future (just like I said last year)
  • Personality traits:  Jayna is probably one of the most thoughtful people I know.  She is always thinking of others and she continues to have a giving heart.  As she gets older, I have started to see some mood swings, which gives me a glimpse of what we have in store…. Yikes!
  • What does Jayna know?:  Jayna retains a lot of information and she learned a ton about animals this past year.  Every book she wanted from the book fair and checked out from the library was about some type of animal.  Jayna started working on cursive and typing over the summer too.  Trying to get a jump start on 3rd grade….
  • Changes from last year:  When Jayna started second grade, she tested at a high Kindergarten reading level (one of the reasons we changed schools).  I was so worried about her, but her teacher was great!  She and I worked to make a plan to get Jayna caught up and by the end of the year; she was right on track for her age and grade level.  She loves to read now! We were so happy!  We are going to let her test for Gifted and Talented this year.  We decided last year that it would have been too much stress on her.
  • Other things:  Jayna enjoyed summertime, but is happy about going back to school.  Her favorite thing about summer was going to Red River for cousin camp with Bonham’s parents, Barrett, and their cousin, Emerson.  Jayna became a big sister again too!  She is such a little mother and George just loves her!  He even says something that sounds like, “nayna”.

Jayna with her teacher, Mrs. Cole:

Jayna with Ms. Grisso, which will teach Language Arts, Spelling,
Reading, and Art on Fridays

Jayna got to pick her seat in her class.  She chose first and then other students came in and the table filled up with boys.  Jayna was kind of embarrassed, but I am hoping it will keep the talking to a minimum!  LOL

Barrett's First Grade Stats:
  • Height: 3 feet 10 inches (50th percentile) - up 2.5 inches from last year
  • Weight:  51 lbs (73rd percentile) - up 7 lbs from last year
  • Shoe Size:  1.5 – up a little more than one size from last year
  • Shirt:   size 6/7
  • Short/Pants:  some 5T and size 6
  • Baby Teeth:  Barrett has lost 2 baby teeth so far and has no loose teeth
  • Favorite Food:  He answered, “Ketchup”, but when I told him that he had to pick a food, he said, “Corn dogs with ketchup”
  • Favorite Drink:  Chocolate Milk
  • Favorite Game:  Hide and Seek
  • Favorite Thing To Do:  play on the kindle or the computer
  • Favorite Show/Movie:  Transformers Rescue Bots (show) / Lego Movie (movie)
  • Favorite Color:  Green
  • Favorite Song: Everything is awesome from The Lego Movie
  • Best Friend:  Gavin and Layla C. from his Kindergarten class;
  • Looking forward to this school year:  Barrett is looking forward to learning new things!
  • When Barrett grows up:   He said he wants to be a plumber and when I asked him, “why?” he said, “to make a lot of money!”  He must have heard somewhere that plumbers made a lot of money.  That was on the day I asked him, but more recently he said that he wants to build the biggest and best water park in the world!
  • Personality traits:  Barrett is still very sweet and sensitive.  He plays well with others and is very kind.  He is sweet to his baby brother and he is looking forward to having a new baby brother or sister.
  • What does Barrett know?:  Barrett is so smart!  He can read, even though it’s not his favorite thing.  He is very good at problem solving and has a very inquisitive nature.  Barrett was accepted to the Gifted and Talented Program at School.  He is only 1 of 6 in the whole First Grade; needless to say, we are pretty proud of this smart boy!
  • Changes from last year:  Barrett is almost 2 years out from his heart surgery and is more energetic than he was before.  He is no longer on blood pressure medicine.  Barrett is now a big brother and he is a great big brother!  Barrett started taking piano lessons at the beginning of the year with his music teacher and he loves it – he’s a natural, like his sister!
  • Other things:  Barrett enjoyed summer so much!  He loved going swimming, going to the zoo, going to the museum, etc.  His favorite thing about summer was Schlitterbahn!  As mentioned in previous posts, both kids are branching out and trying more foods, which we couldn't be happier about!

Barrett and Mrs. Tilghman:

Getting right to work!
Barrett didn't get to pick his seat, but he is sitting right across from Layla, who was in his class last year.

Picking them up this afternoon....
not the best picture, but they were happy to see us and we were happy to see them too!

The kids were so sweet when saying their prayers last night….

Barrett’s went like this, “Dear Jesus, thank you for my mommy, my daddy, Jayna, and the new baby.  Please let the new baby be a girl and help me make all A’s this year. Amen.”

Jayna’s prayer went like this, “Dear God, thank you for everything in the world, all my family, and delicious food.  Please help the new baby be healthy.  And help me to make good grades on my tests and all A’s too.”
**Tonight's prayer added in "and please help me to follow the rules and not get in trouble for talking..."  Makes me wonder what happened today.  Hmmm.  She comes from a mom who always got in trouble for talking, so I sympathize!

This year's grades....

Barrett didn't get actual grades in Kindergarten.  He received completion kinds of designations the subject matter covered.  Jayna received straight A’s all year!  We had told her that if she got straight A’s, we would get her a guitar at the end of the year.  We didn't feel like she was quite ready for one yet, so we asked if she would rather have her own laptop.  Can you guess what her response was?  :) The laptops were on sale (a really, really good sale) and the kids’ hand-me-down desktop had stopped working.  Our thought was that it would be better if they could each have one and they could work simultaneously, so we got one for Jayna for her good grades and one for Barrett for his birthday!  Win-Win!

This year, Jayna would like her guitar for getting all A’s.  :)  Barrett wants to go to Chuck E Cheese.  Bonham asked him, “don’t you want something a little bigger/better?”  Haha!  I was actually thinking that we would do something like Chuck E Cheese for a six weeks of all A’s.  We’ll see….
