We knew that it was only a matter of time. We were actually surprised that we didn't find one sooner and that we have only seen a baby snake so far. And this is why we did our snake hunt with Jayna (see a few posts ago). With this being so soon after our 'snake hunt', this was a good follow up to the lesson of where to be cautious of snakes. This little guy was in the tall grass in Mr. Turtle's little home.
Bonham took pictures with his phone, so the first one wasn't really clear. This is a Great Plains Rat Snake. It is not a venomous snake, but Bonham killed it anyway. =)
Bonham did some research and there are about 79 species of snakes that are native to Texas. Bonham said, 'Well, that's one down!' I really hope that we don't find the other 78 species around our house!!!

Yikes! The only good kind of snake is a dead one. :)~ Way to go Bonham and love the activity you did with the kids. Such wonderful parents!
